Jomarie was born and raised in North Carolina. She graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and has a degree in psychology and elementary education. Her love of children led her to travel to Bosnia with First United Methodist Church of Cary in 1998 to work with children at the youth center in Gornji-Vakuf/Uskoplje. She immediately established a close bond with the people in Bosnia and returned to work at the center year after year. She also volunteered at a multi-ethnic camp in Macedonia. Her experiences in the Balkans solidified her desire to become a teacher.
Jomarie has been an elementary public school teacher since 2001. She currently lives with her two children and husband in Raleigh, NC.
